We Just Moved: Where do we put all our stuff!?!

Moving to a new home is exciting, but it's also exhausting! Once you've moved everything from old place to new place, it's usually back to work and there's no time to style the new home. I can help you get settled while you get back to the "real world."

Buying a new home (or renting a new place) is such an exciting time! Whether it’s your first home, or your fifth, it’s a chance to refresh your life. New space, maybe a new neighborhood. A cleaning out of the old and welcoming in the new. It’s fun and exciting, but it’s also time-consuming!

Many times, you have to take time off of work to pack up the old house and move into the new one. And there’s the inevitable “between 8 and 2” meeting the internet people, or the HVAC people, or the inspector, or the installation people for the new refrigerator. And once you’ve moved the boxes and met the people, it’s back to work and the “real world.”

It’s a lot of coordination and hard work, and by the time you’re done, there’s often little time or energy to think about what should go where. Arranging the furniture in just the right layout, getting window treatments up, hanging art and pictures on the walls, finding the perfect spot for your collections or treasured pieces. It’s all part of making the new house feel like home. And you’ll get to them eventually, on nights or weekends, when you have the energy again. But until then...where did the blender end up again?

But it doesn’t have to be that way...I can help! While you get back to work, I can create a layout for your furniture and get it moved into the places that make sense for your new home. I can hang the curtains, or coordinate installation of new blinds for privacy. I can find just the right wall for your art and family photos and get them up to be admired.

Furniture placement can be hard to visualize. Working up a layout for placement helps identify where to use the things you have already and where you might need something new.

Finding the best uses for the things you already have is the first step in a new home. Then you can see where maybe you could uses something new...or old, if you’re the vintage-type! I like to leave space in my designs for pieces you find throughout the years. I think it’s important to be surrounded by things you love. And tastes change over the years. I’m not much a typical souvenir person. I love to collect pieces for my home when I travel. Having the option to add a new piece every couple years keeps the design fresh and meaningful.

Ooh, and don’t forget storage! It can be difficult when you first move into a new space to see it’s potential options for storage. Let’s face it, we need lots of storage! I can help you find the best solutions for your storage needs. Does the closet need an organizer to keep things tidy and maximize available space? If you’ve never had one, let me tell you, it makes a HUGE difference! You can get so much into a small space with the right organizer.

Closet organizers create more options for storing your things out of sight but still at hand, like this layout from Ikea.

Or maybe you need to designate a space for a home office. I can help you find corner or nook to make working from home so pleasant you’ll have to force yourself to head into the office. Or a spot for the kids to do their homework. There’s probably room where you’d least expect it. Some creative use of your new space makes your dream house the home you’ve always dreamed of.
