This weekend, I helped host a baby "sprinkle" for one of my closest friends. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with lots of friends and family, food and fun. I had been out of town until shortly before, so I was feeling a little pressed for time to get everything pulled together. But, I'm happy to report, things went pretty darn smoothly!
While I was searching for ideas for the perfect gift for this soon to be blessing us with her appearance little girl, I was drawn (literally) to the idea of giving her something as unique as she is. I had been doodling some monograms during a conference speaker a few weeks ago (I know, poor form, but I actually do listen better when I'm occupying my hands...) and one of them happened to be a blooming "E." It was perfect! I wont give it away, but little miss on-her-way's name starts with, you guessed it, an E.
There's something about hand making a gift that I truly enjoy. Picturing the person she's going to become some day, and the world she's making brighter just by coming into it. It's a simple design, and didn't take me too long to create, but each stroke of the pen was a little like drawing my hopes and wishes for her into something she will look at every day. Sure it's just a letter, but it's also her, and a little bit of me, and her mom, and the whole circle that connects us to each other.
Such a fun day, and a heartwarming experience. I can't wait to meet her!
